Job Summary

The Quantity Estimating Engineer will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed estimates for construction projects on site. This role involves analyzing project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to determine the quantities of materials, labor, and equipment required. The Quantity Estimating Engineer will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that estimates are comprehensive, competitive, and align with project budgets and timelines. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of construction processes and cost management.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

– Conduct detailed quantity take-offs from construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.

– Prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.

– Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and other stakeholders to develop and refine project estimates.

– Monitor and update estimates as project details and conditions change, ensuring alignment with project budgets and schedules.

– Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, including pricing strategies and bid submission documents.

– Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids and quotations to ensure accuracy and completeness.

– Track and document project costs, identifying variances between actual and estimated costs.

– Provide input on cost control and value engineering strategies to optimize project costs.

– Prepare and present detailed cost reports and analysis to project stakeholders.

– Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.

– Conduct site visits and inspections to verify actual progress and quantities against estimates.

– Assist in the negotiation and administration of contracts with subcontractors and suppliers.

– Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all estimates, assumptions, and supporting documentation.

– Participate in project meetings and provide technical expertise on quantity estimation and cost-related matters.

 

Job Requirements

– Strong analytical and mathematical skills for accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimating.

– Proficiency in quantity surveying and cost estimating software (e.g., AutoCAD, Bluebeam, CostX, etc.).

– In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.

– Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

– Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.

– Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

– Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.

– Familiarity with project management principles and practices.

– Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

– Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

– Strong understanding of risk management and cost control techniques.

– Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

– Relevant educational background in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.

– Professional certification in quantity surveying or cost engineering is a plus.
